Lender low-doc policies

What lenders actually require for low-doc asset finance

Policy summary

Australian bank low-doc asset finance policy generally requires an ABN active for 24 months or more, GST registration, a clean credit file, a business-use asset no older than 15 years at the end of the term, and no financial statements up to a lender-specific cap. Non-bank lenders are more flexible on deposit and asset type at slightly higher rates.

Major bank low-doc

Big-four and second-tier bank asset finance divisions. Sharpest rates, tightest policy. This is the policy AssetMX qualifies against by default.

  • Asset must be primarily business use and on the standard asset list (vehicles, trucks, yellow goods, common trade equipment).
  • Above the no-financials cap, expect a request for the latest financial statements or BAS.
  • Non-property-owning applicants usually need a deposit or stronger bank statement conduct.

Non-bank low-doc

Specialist non-bank asset financiers. Slightly higher rates than the banks, more flexible on deposit, property ownership and asset type.

  • Wider asset appetite: specialised or older equipment that banks decline.
  • Rates typically sit above the bank tier; AssetMX still adds no margin.
  • Bank statements are the primary serviceability evidence.

Full-doc or out of policy

Deals that fall outside low-doc policy: new ABNs, no GST, credit impairment, unusual assets or amounts above the low-doc cap. Not the AssetMX model; a broker with lender relationships is the right channel.

  • Full financial statements, tax returns and BAS are required.
  • AssetMX will tell you within the fit check if your deal sits here, so you do not waste time on a low-doc application.
  • Ask us anyway: policy edges move, and we will say plainly if we cannot help.

Where AssetMX sits

AssetMX qualifies every application against the major-bank low-doc tier first, because that is where the sharpest rates are. If you fit, you get the lender base rate plus a flat $800. If you do not fit the bank tier but fit the non-bank tier, we tell you the rate difference before you apply. If you sit in the full-doc tier, we say so in the fit check and suggest a broker.

What every tier will ask for

  • Driver licence for each director or guarantor
  • ABN and GST status (we look these up automatically)
  • Business bank statements, typically the last 3 to 6 months
  • Supplier invoice or private-sale details for the asset
  • Consent to a credit check on formal application

Questions people ask

Why do you not name the lenders?

Lender policies are confidential to accredited introducers and change without notice. We publish the policy shape by tier so you can see where you fit, and match you to a specific lender inside the application.

What does "low-doc" actually mean?

The lender approves on ABN age, GST registration, credit history and bank statements instead of full financial statements and tax returns. It is not "no-doc": identification, bank statements and the asset invoice are still required.

I have traded 18 months. Can I apply?

Not under bank low-doc policy, which is what AssetMX qualifies against. Some non-bank lenders consider 12 to 18 months with a deposit and property ownership, usually at higher rates through a broker.

How often is this page updated?

Monthly, and immediately when a panel lender changes a headline criterion. The review date at the top of the page is 8 September 2026.
